Connectors Enable Faster, Easier Grid Installation

Some experts estimate the U.S. grid needs to expand between 50-100% in the next 10-15 years in order to keep up with increasing demand from population, manufacturing, and technology shifts.

While many grid infrastructures rely on hardwired connectivity to transmit power, data, and signal, the drawbacks of this approach include higher installation time and costs, more complex maintenance requirements, and less reliable connectivity when compared to connectorization.

Installation Speed

During installation, thousands of connection points are required to be connected manually. Hardwiring processes dictate a wire to be stripped and individually-connected directly to a terminal block or PCB, on-site. The intention is that this connection is permanent, because of the difficulty in uninstalling and re-installing without error.

Connectors allow for pre-assembled, plug-and-play connectivity – enabling installation time to shrink from weeks to days. Since connections are assembled off-site, testing is done ahead of time, decreasing on-site testing time up to 50%.

Connectors also give the freedom and flexibility to disconnect and re-connect almost instantly, during maintenance, troubleshooting, or infrastructure updates.

Installation Cost

The time-intensive hardwiring process depends on highly-skilled, expensive, and hard-to-source installation labor to complete. And, even though this labor is trained and skilled, the multitude of manual connections opens opportunities for human error.

Pre-assembled connectorized cables reduce the cost of installation and maintenance over the lifetime of the application. While some up-front investment is needed for the connectorization of cables, each time a connection is disconnected and re-connected the investment pays off. Instead of needing to source, schedule, and pay for hardwiring labor, connectors can be managed by more cost effective means.

In fact, after the third installation, connectors can save up to 30-40% when compared to hardwiring.

Ruggedness and Reliability

In addition to saving time and costs during installation, connectors protect that investment with its reliability and safety. More stable grids require less maintenance and ensure customer satisfaction.

How connectors create reliable grids:

✓ “Error proof” installation eliminates miswiring

✓ Made from durable materials, like steel and non-corrosive plastics

✓ Prevents water inundation, extreme dust, vibration or shock, reducing exposure to the elements

✓ Up to IP69K Effective protection against liquids and solids

✓ Approved by UL, ISO Certified, ITAR Registered
